You know those people who always know the cool stuff? The ones whose houses are decked out in brands you’ve never heard of but instantly love? The one who discovered it before it “went mainstream”. That person is now you, because we’re introducing the three brands — for home and personal scent — that you need in your life now. Thank us later.
What you need to know: The female-founded Australian company, formerly known as Mews Collective is based out of NSW and are known for their stunning vessels that frankly, deserve to be in a gallery, and their high-quality, yet (almost, shockingly) affordable fragrances that are designed in their in-house perfumery. The candles are hand-poured and made with sustainability in mind, the vessels designed with the intention to be reused, and the diffusers are forever pieces for your home.
And let’s just say — you’ll want these to be displayed forever in your homes (think plants, makeup brushes, stationery). Although they have a minimalist collection where we think they really shine is their latest Ceramics range, which feature modern, on-trend prints that make a serious statement — not to mention looking like a far, far more expensive Italian candle (ahem, Fornasetti).
Our pick: All of it! But if we had to choose, it would be the Camellia and White Lotus Large Ceramic Candle, $49.95 for the Terazzo print that goes with everything, and looks forever chic or the Blood Orange Large Ceramic Candle, $49.95 for the White Lotus meets Amalfi vibes and the refreshing citrus scent.
What you need to know: By Margot Elena, the creator of two of our other favourite fragrance brands, Tokyo Milk and Lollia, Archive is a personal fragrance line that is steeped in nostalgia, designed to give you main character energy for your very own story. Like everything Margot Elena does, the fragrances are beautifully balanced, evocative and exceptional quality, while the bottles are a minimalists’ dream: both timeless and chic.
Within the collection there are three different scents, each with an accompanying bubble bath, body wash and body lotion The scents each have a poetic name that tugs at the heart and speaks to the soul, as all great fragrances should.
Journey Within, $99 is a green scent with notes of green tea and willow that’s both fresh and nostalgic at the same time. Poet At Heart, $99 is a clean floral with rosehip and lavender that is pretty and whimsical and feels Austen-esque. Yet To Be Written is sa zesty citrus that is laced with adventure and hope and the feelings of “what if”. Nestled in packaging that looks like a novel, they’re a choose your own adventure of fragrances, reminding you that you are always in control of your own story. And we love that for us.
What you need to know: A sister brand to our the cult classic The Perfume Oil Company these designer-inspired fragrances make smell great, and your wallets do a happy dance. Sourced from some of the most sought-after boutiques and perfumeries in the world, their thing is dupes - which means you get your designer fix in a budget.
With seven scents available inspired by iconic niche brands such as Byredo, D.S & Durga and Ellis Brooklyn, the perfume oils are housed in 10ml roller balls, which just so happen to fit perfectly in even your most micro handbag. Each of the oils are made in Australia and because they’re in concentrated oil form they last longer on the skin. Sold yet?
Our pick: The collection is hits only, but it’s Minx, $34.95 inspired by Byredo’s Young Rose (a fresh take on classic rose with notes of pepper and musk), that won our hearts, as did Leaf, $34.95 inspired by D S & Durga’s Debaser, a unique mix of Fig, Iris, Coconut, Tonka, Blond Woods and Moss that will have you smelling like no one else.
