The beauty ingredients you need to know now
What they are, what they do, and where to find them.
It seems like every week there’s a new beauty ingredient on the shelves that’s being spruiked as the next big thing. Chia seeds have made way for hemp seeds, and adaptogenic mushrooms are popping up seemingly everywhere. But, there are a few key ingredients that have proven they’re no flash in the pan, and these are the ones that have become staples in many a beauty-lovers’ bathroom cabinet. Here are the ones we’re loving right now, and exactly what they do for you.
Charcoal: Or, more specifically, activated charcoal, it may seem scary to put anything black and dense on your face but in fact it’s an amazing ingredient for detoxifying and drawing out - and absorbing - all the impurities in your skin. It works similar to a magnet with the toxins and pollution binding to the charcoal and bringing them to the surface so your pores can be clear and clog-free.
Argan: Great for all skin types, but especially dry and sensitive skin, you’ve probably seen argan oil in hair products over the years as a smoothing, nourishing ingredient. Well, it turns out those same properties also work magic on the skin. Because it’s high in omega fatty acids and vitamin E, it’s anti inflammatory, and super moisturising so ideal for plumping and soothing the skin.
Aloe Vera: This wonder plant is super charged with a whole host of vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, C, E, B1, B2, B3 and B12. As all Aussies know, it’s fantastic for treating and healing incidental sunburn, but it also contains antioxidants, fatty acids and a high concentration of water so it’s excellent for hydration.
Magnesium: People have been taking magnesium as a supplement for years as it can help with things like the absorption of calcium. This essential mineral is actually already in our body and can also be found in green leafy veg, but nowadays you can find it in a bunch of beauty and bath products too. And that’s because it boasts a bunch of benefits including improved sleep, lowered stress and soothing tired and sore muscles.
