Why oils are so great for your skin
It’s time to fear oils no more! Get amongst these body and face oils and watch your skin glow.
There was a time, not so long ago, where no self-respecting beauty lover would let an oil anywhere near her skin. The fear was that they would clog the pores, cause breakouts or somehow make oily skin more oily. But, thankfully the days of face oil fears are gone, and it’s well and truly made a comeback. Nowadays you can find the good stuff in everything from cleansers to organic face oils, belly oils and body oils - and skin is all the glowier for it. But, what makes them so special? Here are just a few of the reasons why oils are so great for your skin.
They fix dryness:
Oils are super-hydrating and have the ability to penetrate deep into the skin to lock in water and moisture. This is because they have a small molecular structure so they can sink in - rather than sit on top - of the skin. Plus, variants that contain omega 3 fatty acids such as almond, chia and walnut oil are known to be extra hydrating.
They’re great for anti ageing:
As we age our skin produces less oil - which is why it gets drier and duller as we mature. Oils work by improving the lip barrier function of your skin - that is, the thing responsible for hydration, firmness and softness, as well as protecting it from environmental aggressors. Rose and rosehip oils are particularly great for this.
They have skin healing properties:
Most of the oils found in beauty products are plant derived, and these plants are powerful things. Argan oil is known to have anti-inflammatory properties so great for sensitised skin, and rosehip and jojoba oil are packed with antioxidant ingredients which protect the skin, plus they also contain Vitamins A and E which are calming, nourishing and have skin healing benefits.
